Golden Milk Concentrate

The ideal last minute Christmas gift

Last weekend Thomas and I went to a nice little Christmas market on a finca in the middle of the Mallorcan countryside. There was the smell of a campfire, little children crowed Christmas carols into a karaoke microphone, and between trees and ferns people in flower dresses moved around buying flower soaps, flower decorations, flower sandwiches and flowers in oil. At one booth they were selling superfood beverage powders in all colors from pink to black. I don’t know if I will get in trouble if I reveal that on this afternoon my husband bought a blue powdered drink with great enthusiasm that makes normal plant milk look like unicorn pee. But when the nice man at the market stand mentioned that the powder was ideal for cyclists and promoted muscle building, he just couldn’t help it. When he was about to also buy golden milk powder, which was about as expensive as a tiny gold bar, I whispered to him: “I can do that myself”. So I had to keep my word. Two days later, I was in the kitchen mixing spices and honey for a golden milk concentrate, which can be mixed with hot almond milk to get a delicious golden milk or turmeric latte in no time at all.

The Golden Milk originally comes from Ayurveda and has been drunk both in the morning and in the evening for many centuries. Especially in the wet and cold season, Golden Milk has a warming effect and protects against colds. The anti-inflammatory effect of turmeric, which gives the milk its beautiful yellow color, makes it an ideal health drink. Golden Milk is particularly recommended for osteoarthritis, rheumatism and inflammatory diseases of all kinds. But it also works well for existing colds and kills bacteria. Above all, it tastes incredibly good, which is why it is the best form of preventive medicine for me. And that is also the reason why I would like to give away the concentrate to my best friends this year. It is quickly mixed together and filled into a small glass – and a nice Christmas present is ready that everyone will be happy about. In this sense: Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! And have fun with the Golden Milk!

And now my question for you: do you use beverage powders or concentrates regularly? I’m looking forward to your comment below this post!

GOLDEN MILK CONCENTRATE

Servings 1 glass concentrate
Prep Time 5 minutes
Print Recipe

Ingredients

For the concentrate – makes many cups of Golden Milk:

  • 200 g acacia honey alternatively: light rice syrup
  • 8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp ginger powder
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • a pinch of freshly ground black pepper

For serving:

  • 250 ml unsweetened almond milk

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients for the concentrate until smooth. Fill into a clean jar with a suitable lid. The concentrate lasts at least 1 month (probably longer, but since it is gone faster and faster with us, I have no experience here ;–)
  • To serve, heat almond milk (I also like to mix half the milk with water). Add approx. 2 teaspoons of the concentrate per serving and stir until smooth. If necessary, froth the hot liquid with a milk frother. Serve hot.
